Description

Tear gas was used as protests continued in Kenosha on Tuesday night, after police shot a black man identified as Jacob Blake the previous day.

Riot police were called to Kenosha's city centre where protesters gathered in small groups and began demonstrating, as at least one law enforcement truck moved towards them forcing them to retreat partially.

Jacob Blake, an unarmed 29-year-old black man, was shot multiple times in the back on Sunday, by an officer with the Kenosha Police Department, in Wisconsin, as his children watched from a vehicle.

Blake is reported to be paralysed, with doctors unsure if he will recover the use of his legs.

The city of 100,000 inhabitants has seen tensions rise as protesters broke windows and sprayed graffiti at a Kenosha County administrative building following the shooting.

According to reports, vehicles at a nearby auto dealership were torched, a fire was started at a county courthouse. Kenosha has since declared an overnight curfew.

Anti-racist and anti-police demonstrations have been taking place nationwide in the United States since the death of George Floyd last May.
