Seyed Afshin Mobasher, known as the 'Hercules of Iran,' was on course to set a new Guinness World Record as he pulled two Renault T530 trucks, weighing a total of 95 tonnes (209,439 pounds), over a distance of 25.52 metres in Tehran on Thursday.

"We have been researching about it for months which was hauling the heaviest trailer truck in the world," he explained. "We have been informed by our consultants that Guinness rules are to push 91 tonnes. This record could be settled by a team or in a solo format. We picked the trucks, which are Renault T530 trucks, and fill them with lead and connect them and we reached 95 tonnes for the record."

Footage shows the Iranian athlete pulling the lorries as people watched and took photos of the feat.

"This time, with the advice we received from Guinness consultants, so my record will be posted on their website, and we will have to wait for some time to get my name in the book," he added.

Despite the anticipated wait, he said he was delighted to have achieved his goal and represented his country.

"I am happy to break the record and raise Iran's flag in the world once again," he added.

Last year, he hit the headlines for pulling a 43-tonne MD (McDonnell Douglas) plane over 14.72 metres in 36 seconds, which was registered as a national record in Iran.
