Description

Thousands of pro-Palestine protesters marched in Sao Paulo on Sunday, as part of 'National Act in Defense of Palestine' rally against the ongoing war and humanitarian crisis in Gaza and express support to Palestinians in Sao Paulo on Sunday.

Footage shows protesters marching along the city's Paulista Avenue with Palestinian flags and banners reading 'End Gaza bombing' and 'Zionism and Nazism' while chanting such slogans as 'Viva, viva Palestine'.

One of the protesters, Mayara, explained that they gathered to protest against the genocide of 'entire people that has resisted for a long time'. "There is no way we can accept it anymore, not only as Brazilians but as people who believe in freedom!", she continued.

"This government, this occupation, this Zionist occupation kills the Palestinian people in various ways, by shooting, by bombs, preventing them from having access to medicine, from having access to humanitarian aid," another protester, Emilia, stated.

The protest was reportedly called by several social organisations, including the Workers' Cause Party (Partido da Causa Operaria, PCO).

The fighting in Gaza is now in its ninth month. Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 37,877 people had been killed and more than 86,969 injured, at the time of publication.

The IDF claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
