Description

Dramatic aerial footage from Meizhou in China shows widespread flooding in the city on Tuesday.

“The rain didn't stop, pouring all day," explained one local. "The biggest difficulty is having no water or electricity…Right now, there's no water at all, so we can only use the water from the river temporarily. We have to wait until clean water is restored before we can thoroughly clean up.”

Footage also shows locals attempting to rescue their belongings from the floodwaters.

"Last night's rescue was quite challenging because of the deep mud," said one emergency worker. "We couldn't use the rubber boat for rescue, so we had to go into the house to carry people out."

Around a dozen people have been reported killed across the country in the ongoing floods and landslides in the south, which are a regular occurrence at this time of year.

According to media reports, President Xi Jinping called for an 'all-out flood rescue effort' to 'guarantee the security of people's lives and property, and overall social stability'.
