Description

Scuffles were seen between pro-Palestine and pro-Israel demonstrators in Utrecht on Saturday as large crowds gathered to denounce the escalating violence in Lebanon.

Footage shows police breaking up the altercation before thousands marched through a shopping centre and into surrounding streets waving Palestinian and Lebanese flags while holding banners displaying slogans such as 'cut all ties'.

"It just needs to stop. But no one is doing anything, and we keep showing up as activists, but it's time for the international community to also start taking action," a protester said.

"The Zionist entity has escalated its attacks on.. especially the south of Lebanon but also Beirut, and it's bombing it incessantly like every hour many, many deaths are being counted in," added a second. "What the hell is happening?"

On Saturday, Hezbollah confirmed reports that its Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah had died following an Israeli airstrike on the militant group's central headquarters in Beirut's southern suburbs.

In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Nasrallah's death 'settled the account' with a 'mass murderer', describing the Hezbollah leader as a terrorist and the 'central engine of Iran's axis of evil'.

Tensions between the sides escalated in mid-September after a series of explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah left dozens dead and thousands injured. Hezbollah responded by launching hundreds of rockets into northern Israel.
