Duong Qui Nhon became an internet sensation after 3,7 million people reportedly watched him deep-frying what seems to be a Labubu toy to a crisp cake. The culinary masterpiece was detailed so meticulously that many thought Qui Nhon 'cooked' the actual toy, making their hearts skip a beat.
Footage filmed on Tuesday in An Giang captures the young baker shaping the dough into form of Labubu toy and colouring brightly its cute face with a toothy smile. To recreate Labubu's thick fur, Qui Nhon coated the cake with meat floss.
"Previously, I made these animals mainly for my family, friends, as well as my nieces and nephews to watch for fun. But I didn't expect that many viewers and friends would love it. So, from then on, I come up with creative content as well as cute, relatable topics to convey a happy message to everyone," Qui Nhon recalls.
31-year-old baker shared that ingredients play an important role. For his cakes in shape of various animals, Qui Nhon tries to find ingredients that are both 'suitable for the product' and 'safe for health'.
"Initially, I used different methods and different ingredients. However, because I found it unsuitable, I later chose the ingredient, which is meat floss. It makes the Labubu's fur look very real. For the filling inside, you can use chocolate or strawberry, for example. For the dough, you have to use noodles or rice flour and tapioca starch," disclosed the baker.
In the future, Qui Nhon plans to keep on filming videos of his cakes, noting that he will experiment with shapes and forms.
"I'm planning to make things like cakes, fruits or stuff that are delicacies of my hometown in this western region. I'll make the products for the audience from both inside and outside the country so they would know more about my hometown," he stated.
Labubu is an elf character who first appeared in the story series 'The Monsters', largely famous for its long fangs and sharp teeth.
