Description

The national teams of Gabon and Morocco held a press conference in Yaounde on Tuesday following a 2-2 draw in the group stages of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The two teams progressed from Group C as a result, leaving behind rivals Comoros and Ghana.

“Tactically we played the right match, they (the players) respected the instructions. Then, I think that on the looks of the encounter, considering the quality and value of the opponent we can be satisfied,” commented Gabon’s coach Patrice Neveu.

Eight players from Gabon’s team were unable to play in the match due to an outbreak of COVID-19 within the team.

"Yes, we were going to this match with a lot of people missing, so we knew it was going to be complicated, especially with the absence of key people,” commented Gabon player Jim Allevinah.

“But today I think we showed a lot of solidarity, a lot of values and we did it for the country, we are qualified, we have achieved our goal, we are very happy tonight,” added Allevinah.

Gabon finished second in Group C, with a total of five points, with Morocco taking the lead.

"Some boys have been injured, others are sick, I have to try to see their condition. But it's going to get better, it's going to get better, we have to take risks,” commented Morocco's coach Vahid Halilhodzic.

Gabon is set to play against Burkina Faso this Saturday as part of the Round of 16. It is not yet clear who will be Morocco’s opponent next Tuesday as the tournament continues.
