Thousands of worshipers gathered at Shah Abdol-Azim shrine in Tehran on Saturday to attend prayers marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
A worshiper who attended the prayer elaborated on the importance of the prayer for the unity of people saying, "these events [religious events like Eid Al-Fitr prayer] present the unity of the Shia and Sunni Muslims. It is desirable to gather in such an event and show our unity to the world."
A number of Islamic countries, including Iraq, Oman, and Pakistan, also declared Saturday as Eid al-Fitr after the Shawwal crescent was not seen.
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Syria, UAE and Turkey, Egypt, Kuwait, Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan declared Friday as the first of Shawwal and the day of Eid al-Fitr.
Eid al-Fitr is celebrated across several countries with feasts and family visits, and its celebration sets off the month-long, dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
