Description

Builders and tradesmen in Georgetown, Texas are putting finishing touches to houses in the world's largest 3D-printed neighbourhood. There are just 100 houses left to be completed in the neighbourhood, which is built using a huge 3D printer.

Footage captured on Friday shows the exterior and interior of one of the nearly-completed houses, while builders can be seen working on the house and using the printer.

Local residents shared their feelings about new houses.

"This area of Georgetown is really, really vibrant and it's really, really growing and I feel like the more innovation that people can bring with technology and affordable housing to this particular area, brings more and more people that have a unique opportunity make an impact on the Georgetown community," said resident Roger Grimes.

"It's an honour to be here, we're excited. It's wonderful," explained another local Ryan Ross. "I really can say we love it, like nothing negative to say, honestly. I really hope to see more these projects being done all over."

During the building process workers use the 45-feet-wide ICON massive robotic 3D printer which weighs 4.75 tons, according to media reports.

The futuristic 3D-printed houses boast sizes ranging from 1,500 to 2,100 square feet (from 140 to 195 square metres), providing accommodation with three or four bedrooms.

As housing prices surge, leading companies around the globe are turning to 3D-printed houses, offering a cheaper, quicker, and more sustainable, alternative construction method.
