An eyewitness recalled the incident after a car drove into a crowd of people protesting in Manhattan on Friday, reportedly causing at least five injuries.
Paramedics were on the scene as injured people were being taken to hospital by ambulance. None of the injuries are life-threatening, according to reports.
"I heard a noise behind me and heard people getting knocked over. I heard bikes go down. I quickly glance behind me, saw there is a black sedan accelerating," described an eyewitness.
"I saw somebody on a bike get sort of thrown to the side, hit her head on the ground. She was like, 'am I bleeding, am I bleeding?' I checked out her head she wasn't thankfully," Brian added.
"She hit the accelerator from what I saw. I would guess around 40, 50 miles an hour (64-80kmh), " he added.
Local reports said that the police detained one female driver, who is accused of having driven her vehicle into the crowd of demonstrators.
