Description

Wild Thang, an eight-year-old brown Pekingese, was crowned as world's ugliest dog in a competition in Petaluma on Friday, wiping out eight other competitors which are reported to be mostly rescues.

Footage shows the pup being carried and presented by its owner, Anna Lewis, at the 2024 Sonoma-Marin Fair alongside other dog competitors as one was also seen wearing a wheelchair.

"It's an opportunity to show the differently-abled dogs. You know, they can have full, happy lives," said Michelle Grady, owner of wheelchaired 14-year-old pug Rome. They came in second place and received a prize of $3,000.

Another participant said that the competition was able to bring people together who are 'really passionate about this cause', adding that "you can tell they all have a good heart and it really is a fantastic way to bring awareness."

Wild Thang has competed five times in previous World's Ugliest Dog competitions but this is his first win, according to media reports. He and Lewis received $5,000 for landing the title.

The World's Ugliest Dog competition has been held for nearly 50 years to "celebrate the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique," according to its website.
