Description

The aftermath of a strike on central Beirut was seen on Thursday, as workers with the Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic Health Centre reported that seven of their colleagues were among the nine killed.

Footage shows the destroyed floors of the building in the Bashoura area where the HQ was located, as well as debris and medical equipment in the streets.

"There was no military or security-related activity at the centre," claimed one of the officials, Kamal Zahour. "It's clear from the logo, the sign, and the ambulances parked below the centre."

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that nine people were killed while 14 others were injured.

The Islamic Health Authority stated that those seven of its staff killed included Beirut Civil Defence Chief Raja Zreik, Beirut Operations Director Mehdi Halbawi, and several other officials and paramedics.

The IDF said it had carried out a 'precise strike' on the capital although did not confirm the location.

Hundreds of people have been displaced to the Bashoura area, after tens of thousands fled the southern suburbs, amid the ongoing Israeli airstrikes.

Israel's latest wave of strikes on Hezbollah targets began on September 23, with more than 1,200 people killed and over 7,000 injured at time of publication, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Last Friday, an attack on Beirut's southern suburb killed Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and others. Iran launched a wave of missiles on Tuesday, which is said was in response to that assassination and others.

Tensions in southern Lebanon escalated in mid of September after mass explosions of pagers and handheld radios belonging to Hezbollah. The group has exchanged cross-border fire with Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023.
