Description

Russia's Olympic Committee (ROC) chief Stanislav Pozdnyakov said the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision to ban the use of Russian symbols at the Tokyo Olympics had not affected athletes' results.

"The majority of experts agreed that - and the head of [Russian] state said that too - the CAS decision wasn’t a problem for the Russian sportsmen in terms of competitive result. And we can see it by ourselves," he said during a press conference in Tokyo on Saturday.

Pozdnyakov also added that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) were satisfied with the implementation of the CAS decision by Russian sportsmen.

According to the ROC chief, the Russian team had already performed well, beating their result at the Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.

"The common number of medals already shows that the goal was reached. Moreover, we estimate that in total with this number of medals we will take third place," he mentioned.

According to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, athletes from the Russian Federation cannot compete under the Russian national flag at the Olympic Games and World Championships until December 16, 2022.

Russian athletes can participate in competitions in a neutral status.

Russia is also deprived, for two years, of the right to claim to host sports events such as the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as world championships. In addition, Russian officials are prohibited from attending major international competitions.
