South Africa's Dricus Du Plessis praised his opponent, Nigerian-New Zealander Israel Adesanya, following a decisive victory that saw him retain the middleweight championship at UFC 305 in Perth on Sunday.

"The man was as good as I thought, he was as good. I am so happy that he went out there, and you can after the fight say; this was the best Israel Adesanya. He fought great, and you can see it in just, in his physique," Du Plessis said during the post-fight press conference.

For his part, Adesanya 'The Stylebender' stated that he couldn't say he wasn't disappointed but emphasised that he was proud of the way he carried himself throughout the fight.

"We've inspired the next generation of ANZAC fighters," he added. "The same way me and the three kings, the other two kings, and Dricus have inspired the next generation of African fighters. So, it doesn't stop with us."

In a gripping UFC 305 middleweight title bout, Dricus Du Plessis successfully defended his title against Israel Adesanya, securing a victory by submission in the fourth round. The fight marked Adesanya's first fight after a year away from the Octagon.
