Husam Badran, a member of Hamas’ Politburo and leader of the group's international relations wing, hailed the importance of the first 'Intra-Palestinian meeting' while speaking during an interview in Moscow on Friday.

"Since the launch of 'Operation Al-Aqsa Flood', this is the first meeting to be attended by the 14 factions participating <...> this meeting is convened in Moscow, the capital of a great pro-Palestinian state whose stances have always been clear even during this battle," Badran said.

According to a Foreign Ministry press release, Russia invited 14 organisations to the event in Moscow, including members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The summit took place from February 29 until March 2 with the aim of helping Palestinian groups to unite politically and bring a peaceful end to the fighting in Gaza.

Badran also said that he believes Moscow could play a leading role in securing Palestinian unity due to its worldwide influence and 'strong relations' with Arab factions.

"We believe Moscow, with its power, influence, and distinctive relations with many countries all over the world, can play a real role in helping the Palestinian people restore their rights," Badran said.

"We trust it has the ability and potential to play a positive role in maintaining any deal that might be concluded between us and the [Israeli] occupation," he continued.

The Hamas leader added that Palestinians can no longer rely on 'Washington or its promises', claiming recent comments on achieving a Palestinian state are part of a 'policy of lies'.

"For the past 30 years, the US has monopolised the so-called 'political settlement' between the Palestinians and the [Israel] Occupation, but the US is completely identified with the occupation," Badran said.

"We cannot repeat the experience of the past 30 years under US or UK promises."

Hamas is designated as a terrorist organisation by several countries and organisations, including the United States, the European Union, Israel, and others.

The United States has repeatedly stated that it supports 'Israel in its efforts to defend itself' while recognizing the 'legitimate aspirations' of the Palestinian people to achieve a two-state solution in line with the Oslo Accords.

Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that at least 30,320 people had been killed and 71,533 were injured, mostly women and children – in addition to thousands still missing under rubble – at the time of publication.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
