Djokovic has been denied entry to Australia after not meeting the entry requirements due to his unvaccinated status and his attempt to secure a visa to take part in the upcoming Australian Open has thus far been unsuccessful.
The 20-time major winner was due to compete in the Australian Open which starts in under 2 weeks time.
To enter Australia you must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or provide a medical exemption as to why you can not be vaccinated.
Djokovic's arrival split Australians, with some believing he should not be allowed special exemption and others feeling he should be allowed to compete in the upcoming competition.
Soon after the visa attempt failed, he was taken to the Park Hotel, a location being used as a quarantine facility in Melbourne. The hotel is the same hotel were some refugees have been detained leading to some protesters teaming up with the Djokovic fans.
Djokovic is attempting to launch a last minute court bid to stay in
the country and take part in the tournament in which he is currently the reigning champion.
"I believe that Novak should be treated like everyone else. If you are unvaccinated you enter this country and you go into quarantine for 14 days like everyone else," stated local resident and Djokovic fan Veronica.
"Today is the biggest holiday in our Serbian culture. It's our Christmas eve. Djokovic will be deported to Serbia on Christmas eve and he will spend Christmas day on a plane," she went on to say.
