The Senegalese national team were given a hero's welcome in Dakar late on Monday one day after clinching their first ever African Cup of Nations title.

Jubilant fans could be seen celebrating through the capital before welcoming the team who paraded on a bus among the crowd.

"All Senegalese are happy. Because we've been waiting for this moment for a very long time. In 2002 we had hope, but we still had to wait. But it is coach Aliou Cissé who does all the work despite the criticism, he has made the difference thanks to his perseverance," said one fan who came to witness the team's arrival.

Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 in a penalty shootout following extra time to clinch their first ever AFCON title having previously been finalists in the 2019 edition.
