Description

The Patient's Friends Hospital in Gaza began receiving patients, especially children, after it was partially restored and rehabilitated.

"As everyone knows, the hospital was directly targeted, and the part of the hospital that was towards the qibla was burned," claimed Saeed Salah, Medical Director of the Patient's Friends Society. "After the occupation forces withdrew partially from Gaza, we renovated the hospital, especially the operations department and outpatient clinics. We are currently in the process of reopening the pediatric, obstetrics and gynaecology, and operations departments".

Footage filmed on Sunday shows hospital staff cleaning floors, reinstalling medical equipment and admitting patients. Children are seen in hospital rooms with their mothers. It also shows some damaged parts of the hospital that have yet to be repaired.

"As for the clinics, donors or sponsors are needed to cover the project's financial cost because about 10 new clinics have been renovated and rehabilitated, and this needs between $60,000 and $70,000 due to high prices and a lack of supplies," explained the Medical Director.

"We set up a pediatric section owing to the dire urgency due to the fact that some or all Gaza hospitals were out of service, including Mohammed Jamal Al-Durra Hospital, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Rantisi Hospital, and Al-Nasr Hospital," Salah said. "Kamal Adwan Hospital had recently gone out of service. As a result of the pressing need to create a pediatric department, we did so in Gaza City and its northern areas".

High Representative Josep Borrell and Commissioner Janez Lenarcic stated on 20 May that since the start of the conflict in Gaza, '31 out of 36 hospitals have been damaged or destroyed', including the largest, Al-Shifa Hospital and the remaining hospitals are struggling 'under severe limitations'.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has also recorded a total of 890 attacks on health facilities, 443 in Gaza and 447 in the West Bank, the statement claimed.

The Israel-Hamas war erupted after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Strip, the Israeli army launched a large-scale campaign of airstrikes and ground incursions, killing at least 37,551 Palestinians and injuring more than 85,911 at the time of publication.
