A fire broke out at a lithium battery factory in Hwaseong, South Korea, claiming the lives of at least 22 people on Monday, according to local officials.
Footage shows firefighters gathering on scene and putting out the fire. Footage also shows the damaged building surrounded by piles of debris. Dense smoke clouds can also be seen billowing from the building.
The fire erupted at the Aricell plant at 10:31 am and was contained at 3:00 pm local time. Approximately 100 people were working in the factory when the fire broke out, eight of which sustained injuries according to the Hwaseong Fire Department.
Officials from the fire department also said that the fire erupted after a series of battery cells exploded. The warehouse reportedly contained around 35,000 units.
Local authorities have advised nearby residents to stay indoors and keep their windows shut throughout the day.
