Former president Donald Trump claimed his opponent Kamala Harris 'wants to bring back the draft', during a rally in Las Vegas on Friday.

"Would anybody like to be in a war with Russia? If necessary, we would, but preferably not right, don't you think? It's also a vote to bring back the draft. Would anybody like to be drafted in the audience? Because that's what they're doing. She's already talking about bringing back the draft," he alleged.

"She wants to bring back the draft and draft your child and put them in a war that should never have happened," he added. During the rally, the Republican presidential candidate also voiced frustration about “Venezuelan gangs taking over Aurora” and criticised what he described as “savage criminal aliens” entering the US illegally.

Following the address, the Harris campaign responded that they had "no idea what he’s talking about".

His speech came as President Joe Biden and UK PM Sir Keir Starmer held talks in Washington about potentially allowing Ukraine the weapons and permission for strikes deep inside Russia.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said authorising Ukraine to do so would "mean nothing but direct involvement of NATO countries, the United States, European countries in the war in Ukraine" and added that it "considerably changes… the very nature of the conflict, implying that NATO countries… are at war with Russia."
