Description

Hundreds of demonstrators marched along central Washington DC on Wednesday evening to protest a Kentucky grand jury decision not to directly charge police officers involved in Breonna Taylor's death.

Protesters could be seen marching down Constitutional Avenue from the Department of Justice towards Black Lives Matter Plaza, holding signs depicting Breonna Taylor's face and chanting "No justice, no peace."

"The AG [Attorney General Daniel Cameron] in Kentucky is not filing any homicide charges against the three officers that murder Breonna Taylor. The DOJ that you are all mad at has a roll in Breonna Taylor's case and right now we are demanding that Breonna Taylor's case be escalated to the DOJ because clearly civil liberties were violated," a protester told the crowd.

Officer Brett Hankison was indicted on three counts of wanton endangerment. Two other officers involved in the incident, Myles Cosgrove and Jonathan Mattingly, have not been charged, meaning no officer was directly charged with killing Breonna Taylor.

26-year-old Taylor was killed while sleeping in her bed in on March 13, after police officers broke into her apartment under a 'no-knock warrant' suspecting her to be part of a drug ring. The woman was eventually shot eight times as the officers exchanged gunshots with her boyfriend.

Protests broke out in nearly every major US city after the Kentucky grand jury decision on Wednesday.
