Description

Israel Defence Forces (IDF) strikes continued for a second day in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon as the death toll across the country reached 558, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health.

Footage filmed on Tuesday shows the aftermath of strikes on Zawtar El Charqiyeh, where blast damage to buildings can be seen.

The Lebanese official National News Agency (NNA) stated that Israeli fighter jets had struck the area several times Monday night and Tuesday morning, as the bodies of the dead and wounded were brought to hospitals across the Nabatieh district.

It added that since Monday morning IDF strikes had hit the districts of Tyre, Sidon, Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun, Hasbaya, Jezzine, Nabatieh, Western Bekaa and Bekaa Province. The Health Ministry reported on Monday evening that 1,835 people had been injured.

The IDF announced on Monday that it had launched a broader military operation dubbed 'Operation Northern Arrows', conducting airstrikes on Hezbollah locations. It warned Lebanese civilians to evacuate settlements in the south and the Bekaa Valley.

On Saturday, in his first comment after the IDF raids on southern Lebanon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel ‘would change the balance of power in the north'.

Hezbollah also conducted strikes on Israeli military areas in northern Israel, with Israeli media reporting more than 200 rockets fired.

Tensions escalated over the past week following the mass explosions of pagers and handheld radios used by Hezbollah, with subsequent Israeli strikes on the south of the country and rockets fired from Lebanon into Israel.

The Israeli army has been exchanging cross-border shelling with Hezbollah, and Lebanese and Palestinian factions, since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October 2023.
