Description

The Israeli army released footage on Friday purportedly from its ground operations in Lebanon, with soldiers seen on manoeuvres in an unnamed town.

Footage also shows the apparent discovery of a cache of Hezbollah weaponry left behind in one of the houses. Troops are seen storming the building, as well as weapons laid out on a bed.

The date of filming and location cannot be independently verified.

In a statement, the Israeli army announced that "as part of limited operations in southern Lebanon," its forces carried out "ground raids targeting hidden compounds inside civilian villages based on precise intelligence."

"During these operations, the forces discovered inside a residential home, including munitions of rocket launchers, anti-tank missiles, and missiles placed beside a bed with a picture of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah," it continued. "Dozens of weapons were found in the buildings and residential homes, including rocket launchers aimed at Israel, anti-tank missiles, firearms, and observation points, along with a buried explosive device."

Hezbollah has not released any statements regarding the claims. Earlier it said that its fighters had engaged soldiers in clashes in the villages of Maroun al-Ras, Kfarkela, and Yaroun. On Wednesday, the Israeli army announced the deaths of eight soldiers during ongoing border fighting.

The 'limited and targeted' ground incursion began on Tuesday, after over a week of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. More than 1,200 were reported killed and over 7,000 injured in those strikes at time of publication, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Last Friday, an Israeli attack on Beirut's southern suburb killed Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and others. Iran launched a wave of missiles on Tuesday, which it said was in response to that assassination and others.

Tensions in southern Lebanon first escalated in mid-September after mass explosions of pagers and handheld radios belonging to Hezbollah. The group has exchanged cross-border fire with Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023.
