Description

Israeli tanks were seen on manoeuvres after the IDF announced the start of what it called 'limited, localised, targeted' operations against Hezbollah targets and infrastructure in southwestern Lebanon for the first time on Tuesday.

Footage released shows servicemen inspecting the vehicles and loading them. The date and location of the video released by the Israeli military could not be independently verified.

In a statement, the IDF said that "the 146th Division began on Monday limited, localised, targeted operational activities against Hezbollah terror targets and infrastructure in southwestern Lebanon. This follows a year of defensive activities conducted by the 146th Division on Israel's northwestern border with Lebanon".

Israel began a 'limited and targeted' ground incursion against Hezbollah in Lebanon last week, after a campaign of airstrikes forced thousands to flee their homes in the south of the country.

According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, around 2,000 people have been killed since the latest escalation. Tensions were heightened following mass casualties after pagers and handheld radios used by Hezbollah exploded last month, which the group blamed on Israel - although the country did not comment.

The sides have exchanged cross-border fire in the north of Israel since the outbreak of the 2023 Gaza war.
