Thousands of Palestinian Muslims flocked to the al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem on Sunday morning to perform Eid al-Adha prayers.
Footage shows worshippers gathering at the mosque’s compound during the call to prayer. They can also be seen praying in congregation before listening to the Eid sermon.
According to the Palestinian news agency, Wafa, Israeli forces reportedly "broke into the courtyards of al-Aqsa Mosque during the early hours of the morning and checked the IDs of those inside, and barred a significant number of young men from entering."
Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice), is one of the two major Islamic festivals. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, before God provided a ram to sacrifice instead.
Traditionally, Muslims around the world celebrate by sacrificing an animal and distributing the meat among family, friends and the needy. This festival also marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
