Description

Thousands of Muslims gathered at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka on Thursday, to offer special prayers for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian who died in a fatal helicopter crash earlier this week.

The footage shows thousands of worshippers praying solemnly for the deceased during a day of national mourning in Bangladesh, with the Bangladeshi flag outside seen flying at half-mast.

The worshippers were reported to have also offered prayers for victims of the conflict in Gaza, where the war between Israel and Hamas continues.

The 63-year-old Iranian president, his foreign minister and others were killed when their helicopter came down in the mountains in northern Iran’s East Azerbaijan province in heavy fog on Sunday.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei declared five days of national mourning. First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will serve as acting president for an interim period, with elections scheduled after 50 days. Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani is acting foreign minister.

Messages of condolence arrived from the leaders of Russia, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt and others. Raisi, a conservative cleric seen as close to Ayatollah Khamenei, was elected in 2021.
