US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a press briefing in Washington DC on Thursday, claimed Moscow is using Crocus City Hall terrorist attack 'to justify their aggression in Ukraine'.

"That's been very clear that they (Russia) are trying to use this terrorist attack, this tragic incident where we saw, unfortunately, Russian citizens killed, to justify their aggression in Ukraine. And the underlying facts don't actually matter. They're going to make up supposed facts to back up what they want to do," Miller said.

Earlier on the same day the Russian Investigative Committee's official representative Svetlana Petrenko claimed that the team had obtained evidence of links between the Crocus City Hall attack suspects and 'Ukrainian nationalists'.

"As a result of work with the detained terrorists, examination of the technical equipment seized from them and analysis of information on financial transactions, evidence of their links with Ukrainian nationalists has been obtained," she reported.

Late on Friday, March 22, unidentified individuals dressed in military fatigues opened fire in the Crocus City Hall, a 6,000-seat multipurpose concert hall where a Russian rock band was set to perform. A massive fire broke out in the building shortly after.

At time of publication, over 140 people were reported to have been killed. On Sunday, March 24, the Basmanny Court of Moscow ordered a number of suspects to be remanded in custody until May 22, on charges of 'terrorism'.

President Vladimir Putin declared a day of mourning and described the attack as a 'barbaric terrorist act' in a televised address on Saturday, adding that the suspects had been detained close to the border.

The White House stated that it was a 'terrorist attack that was conducted by ISIS' and that there was 'absolutely no evidence that the government of Ukraine had anything to do with this attack'.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said it 'categorically denies' accusations of Kiev’s involvement in the shooting.

Miller also condemned Russia's veto of the yearly renewal of a panel of experts responsible for monitoring the enforcement of longstanding UN sanctions against North Korea.

China also abstained from the vote, while the other 13 council members voted in favour of renewing the group of experts. This group has been monitoring UN sanctions against North Korea for the past 15 years.

Miller further highlighted that US would interact with Palestinian Authority (PA) new administration based on its actions, closely monitoring the measures it implements to promote essential reforms.

"PA has appointed a new cabinet. We will be looking to this new government to deliver on policies and implement credible and far-reaching reforms. It's something we've spoken to a number of times," he concluded.

Palestine's President Mahmoud Abbas, who has led the PA for nearly two decades, declared the new government in a presidential decree on Thursday.
