Footage shows men and women harvesting the crops on the banks of the Euphrates, gathering the nuts, washing them in the river and packing them into bags.
“It is a very good crop this year,” said Ali al-Rasoul, a farmer. “It generates high profits with low costs, especially in terms of seeds and fertilisers."
“Thank God, the harvest was very good. Previously, we only grew cotton and wheat, but this year we grew peanuts, and it proved a great success,” added Hanan al-Khalaf, a farmer.
The sandy soil of the area is reportedly perfect for cultivation, while peanuts are used in foodstuffs and medicines, and the green leaves in animal feed.
