Description

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) received Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif at Al Safa Palace in Mecca on Monday.

Footage shows the leaders and their delegations holding discussions. Deputy Governor of Mecca region Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz as well as several Saudi ministers and Nawaf Al-Maliki, the Saudi ambassador to Pakistan attended, while the Pakistani delegation included Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

According to a joint statement released after the talks, the sides discussed 'the importance of dialogue between Pakistan and India' to resolve outstanding issues and 'especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute'.

Both countries have friendly relations with Saudi Arabia. The latest row between Pakistan and India involved allegations in the British media that Delhi had carried out 20 'extrajudicial killings' in its neighbour's territory.

India's defence minister said on Friday that it would kill anyone who escaped over the border after trying to carry out militant activities, while Pakistan condemned the comments.

MBS and Sharif also discussed 'regional and global developments of mutual interest, including the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, emphasising the necessity of international efforts to halt Israeli military and military activities in Gaza and lessen their humanitarian repercussions'.

There were also talks on a $5 billion Saudi investment package in Pakistan. It marked Sharif's first foreign visit since he won a second term in March, defeating Omar Ayub who was supported by jailed former prime minister Imran Khan.
