Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif celebrated in Islamabad on Wednesday after watching Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem launch a record-breaking 92.97-metre javelin throw to claim gold at the Paris Olympics.
Sharif is shown with a clenched fist raised to the air, shouting 'Zindabad!', meaning 'long life' while watching Nadeem on a television screen.
"It's above 90, sir, many congratulations to you, sir, Pakistan Zindabad. Sir, it's your day, too. You gave them a chance," one of his aids exclaims.
With his unbelievable throw, Nadeem (27) claimed Pakistan's first medal in 32 years and the country's only Olympic track and field victory.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Sharif thanked Nadeem, writing: "Bravo, Arshad. History made!' You've made the whole nation proud, young man."
Nadeem's Olympic javelin gold dethrones Indian rival and reigning world champion Neeraj Chopra, who took the top prize in Tokyo three years ago.
