Description

Drone footage captured on Thursday shows thousands of unsold Teslas sitting idle at Port Melbourne amid reports the company owned by Elon Musk has seen a sales slump.

According to Victoria's Transport Association chief Peter Anderson, a 'huge backlog' of Teslas appeared at the port 'all of a sudden'.

“Teslas usually come into the country pre-sold. These cars aren’t, they’re sitting here waiting for buyers,” he told a local media outlet.

More than 2,000 Teslas reportedly arrive at Port Melbourne every month, but only a few of them get sold.

Experts say that the key factor behind it is high competition with cheaper Chinese electric vehicles, such as Chinese BYD.

Recently, Tesla has made substantial price cuts to compete with the evolving Chinese EV market, with a brand new Tesla Model Y now $11,400 cheaper than before.
