Description

At least two were people were killed and more than 30 houses damaged in Dohuk on Tuesday after the area was inundated with floodwaters, according to authorities.

Footage shows rescuers pulling vehicles from waterlogged roads while crews worked with excavators to drain the deluge from the streets.

“The streets were low and it was raining heavily, so the streets were flooded because the water couldn’t be drained. Eventually, the streets were blocked by flood water”, said Abed Mohamed Mousa, a taxi driver.

According to Colonel Biwar Abdulaziz of the Directorate of Civil Defense, water 'entered several houses overlooking Hashkro River'. The official also called on drivers coming from Erbil to 'avoid taking the Barzan highway' due to heavy flooding.

Rainstorms lashed several Iraqi governorates, triggering flash floods in various cities while causing disruption to traffic and businesses.
