"I repeat once again that I know nothing about Artmenko,” said Navalny.
The anti-corruption activist Navalny is accused of slandering Artemenko, who spoke in favour of amendments to Russia’s constitution last year, on his personal Twitter and Telegram accounts.
According to the opposition figure, the trial over the case is a product of ‘PR.’
"Because the whole construction of this case, of course, looks like PR. <...> It is necessary that in the courtroom I don’t stand against the shameless prosecutors and the corrupt judges or the investigators, but against something more important, something more sacred," commented Navalny.
If convicted, Navalny faces a fine of up to one million roubles ($13,335/€11,130) or corrective labour of up to 240 hours.
Alexei Navalny hasn’t plead guilty. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for February 12.
