Uzbek Olympic team was given a grand welcome in Tashkent on Monday as the athletes returned home after the Tokyo 2020 Games.

During the welcoming ceremony at the airport, taekwondo Olympic champion Ulugbek Rashidov thanked "everyone who contributed, who helped win this medal."

"Two years ago, I could not even imagine that I would be here, that I could win the Olympic Games," he said.

Gymnast Oksana Chusovitina, who competed at her eighth Olympics in Tokyo, said that the team had performed "very well".

"We were all very happy about this, because our Independence Day is coming soon, and in this way, I think, we congratulated the whole people," the gymnast said.

The Uzbek Olympic team won three gold and two bronze medals at the Olympics.
