Iranian presidential candidate Abdolnaser Hemmati expressed his willingness to negotiate with the United States during a press conference in Tehran, on Tuesday.
Hemmati stated, "I think we have to wait to see how the US' encounter, manner, and strategy is regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran and the region. If we really feel that it is toward a positive coexistence for the advancement of global peace and the regional peace, in my opinion, there is no problem if we sit and talk to them."
Expressing the importance of maintaining relations with the East and West, Hemmati noted, "I see the relation with the East and interaction with the West, especially western Europe, as relations that would lead to economic development."
Hemmati, former Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, is touted as a moderate candidate in the race. Iran's presidential elections are set for Friday, June 18.
