US President Donald Trump jokingly told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin 'don't meddle in the election' during a bilateral meeting at the G20 Summit in Osaka on Friday.

After a reporter asked Trump if he would ask Russia not to meddle in the 2020 US Presidential election, Trump turned to Putin, pointed his finger and said: 'Of course I will. Don't meddle in the election, please.'

Earlier, Trump said that both he and Putin have “many things to discuss,” including trade, disarmament and protectionism. He said he was looking “forward to spending some very good time together” with the Russian leader.

“A lot of very positive things are going to come out of the relationship,” Trump concluded.

Putin agreed, saying that although the two leaders have not seen each other since the Helsinki meeting in 2018, both their “teams have been working together and gave us a great opportunity to follow up.”

Leaders of 19 of the most influential countries in the world and the European Union are meeting in Osaka on Friday and Saturday for the 14th Group of 20 summit to discuss climate change, free trade, and economic inequalities among other issues.
