On Saturday night, thousands of football fans descended on Fort Lauderdale's Chase Stadium as Argentine World Cup champion Lionel Messi rescued Inter Miami from the jaws of defeat with a stunning second-half MLS equaliser against Charlotte FC.

Footage shows Messi leading his team into the stadium as crowds clad in Inter's pink jerseys cheered from the stands. Later, a young pitch invader is seen being chased by security, bringing the game to a temporary standstill.

Charlotte FC kept Inter's star talent at bay throughout the first half before making a breakthrough in the second, with Polish ace Karol Swiderski finding the net from just outside the box. A frustrated Miami found an answer minutes later as Messi fired the ball into the bottom corner in the 67th minute.

"Yeah, it was amazing to see Messi play and to be this close, to see Busquets, Suarez, and all the greats," an Inter fan said.

"Our Messi scored the goal. Everyone is happy here, we didn't lose, and we are going for the championship. That is the goal, and we are going to achieve it," added a second.

Following the draw against Charlotte, Inter Miami remain top of the MLS standings with 65 points. Messi's side needs seven points in the final three matches to claim the league title and will face reigning champions Columbus on Wednesday in a game that could decide the Supporters' Shield.
