Description

The official mascot of this year’s Winter Games, the panda-like ‘Bing Dwen Dwen’, was showcased in Beijing on Saturday.

“The idea of Bing Dwen Dwen was inspired by a Panda. It is the combination of the appearance of Panda and the ice crystal cover, which symbolizes the super power. It shows the principle of the Olympics that combines technology and winter sports,” commented Yin Bowen, a spokesperson for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

“You can see there is a colorful band on the head of Bing Dwen Dwen. It was inspired by the newly-built competition venue, National Speed Skating, which is also known as the ice riband. The color riband is in the sharp of the streamline, which represents high-tech and 5G. Bing Dwen Dwen is designed to wear the outfit of an astronaut,” added Yin.

According to local reports, Merchandise featuring the popular mascot has been very popular in China, with many shops in the capital having sold-out stock shortly after the start of the Olympics.

The mascot was first unveiled in September 2019 and is the creation of Cao Xue and his design team.
