Description

Hundreds joined a pro-Palestine rally in Madrid on Saturday to demand a ceasefire in Gaza ahead of the one-year anniversary of military escalation on the Strip.

Footage shows protesters marching through the city, chanting slogans anti-Israel, US slogans, as well as carrying banners and missile-shaped balloon reading: 'Stop arms trade with Israel'.

"Enough of killing children and old people and every living thing. They have been doing this for many years, but now it's the last straw and what's missing is that they are not only attacking Palestine, but also other countries. We've had enough of Israel," said one protester.

"We are calling for an end to diplomatic relations with Israel. And also an end to the arms trade of companies financed by banks such as Banco Santander or BBVA. But above all we are asking for an end to the Nakba, which has been going on since 1948 against the Palestinian people," said another activist.

Similar protests in support of Palestine and Lebanon took place across the world on Saturday, as part of the International Day of Action, to stand in solidarity with civilians in Gaza.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out on October 7 after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,870 people had been killed and more than 97,000 injured at the time of publication.
