Description

Widespread damage was seen surrounding the UNRWA Regional Headquarters in Gaza City's Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood following reports of the Israeli army's partial withdrawal from the area.

Footage shows locals walking around destroyed buildings as well as piles of rubble and debris surrounding the agency's headquarters.

"We were displaced and have just returned. We are inspecting our destroyed homes; there's nothing inside. Everything is gone. We came back to find our homes destroyed and nothing left inside," one local said.

This comes after the Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood faced heavy Israeli bombardment earlier on Friday, according to the Palestinian News and Information Agency, WAFA.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) announced through their official Telegram channel on Thursday that their forces had conducted an operation in central Gaza earlier this week.

"IDF troops operating in central Gaza located a weapons production workshop as well as a large amount of funds used for terrorist activity. Furthermore, terrorists who posed a threat to the troops in the area were eliminated," the statement said.

The army has not confirmed whether their troops have partially withdrawn from Gaza City.

According to the Palestinian Civil Defence, at least 60 bodies have been recovered from the neighbourhood following the army's operation.

"We call on the Arab countries; we don't want food, we don't want drinks, just come and make us victorious," another local said. "It's as if they are giving us food to fill us and then slaughter us. What's the point? Let them remain in their slumber."

Fighting continues for the tenth month in Gaza after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200 according to Israeli officials.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 38,345 people had been killed and more than 88,295 injured at time of publication.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
