Description

At least 23 Palestinians were reported killed and dozens injured in an Israeli strike on a UNRWA refugee school in Gaza's Nuseirat Camp on Tuesday as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed the raid targeted militants operating inside the facility.

“Where should we go? We left Khan Younis for Nuseirat Camp and settled in Az-Zawayda town. No place is safe for us; every step you take is dangerous,” a displaced man said.

Footage shows a large number of locals in the schoolyard and first-responders carrying bodies as close ones were seen mourning their losses and offering prayers at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. The video also features debris and blood stains on the ground of the UNRWA school, with smoke rising in some parts of the structure.

According to media reports more than 73 people were injured in the strike.

In a statement, the IDF said a raid was carried out on an UNRWA school based on accurate intelligence information, claiming the strike targeted ‘terrorists’ operating inside the facility.

“The terrorists planned and directed a large number of attacks against the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip,” the statement read.

UNRWA wrote on X that five of its schools had been bombed in the last ten days in the Gaza Strip, stressing that "UN facilities must be protected at all times and must not be used for military or combat purposes".

Militant group Hamas accused Israel of 'deliberate bombing of displaced people' in the camp which they said was located in a 'safe zone', calling the incident a 'shameful act' according to media reports.

Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200 according to Israeli officials.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 38,700 people had been killed at time of publication.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
