Description

Hundreds of worshippers in Kashmir offered prayers to Palestinians affected by the Gaza conflict during Eid al-Adha celebration on Monday.

Footage filmed in Srinagar shows worshippers rounding up and feeding rams and goats before weighing the animals in preparation for their offering ritual. They were also seen praying at the Aali mosque in celebration of the Islamic holiday.

"A lot of people are also trying to keep this Eid very simple. So we're not trying to express too much of happiness because we cannot. It is a sad day as well," a worshipper said. "The true sacrifice being made by the people in Palestine. If anything, I think the people of Palestine are of true happiness. They should be happy as they are sacrificing in part of Allah."

Another worshipper shared that he feels this Eid was different to him compared to previous years because of the 'genocide happening in Gaza.'

"People are dying there. So, I don't think we will be able to celebrate in such a way that we used to do," he said.

Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice), is one of the two major Islamic festivals. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God, before God provided a ram to sacrifice instead.

Traditionally, Muslims around the world celebrate the holiday by sacrificing an animal and distributing the meat among their family, friends and those in need. This festival also marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
