Description

A group of right-wing demonstrators, some of them carrying rifles, gathered outside Texas State Capitol in Austin on Sunday. Armed police officers were also seen in the area, which was closed to the public.

Some activists said they attended the event to make sure that an attack on the complex, similar to the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, would not happen.

"We are here to be peaceful. We are here to support the Second Amendment of the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence, the principles of 98. If you want to get violent, if you want to be a rabble-rouser, then we are here to make sure that you are not getting away with that," said Ben Hawk, one of demonstrators.

At least 19 states deployed the National Guard to protect their legislative and government buildings ahead of the inauguration of the President-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday.
