Dozens of people were reportedly killed and wounded in Israel Defence Forces (IDF) airstrikes on the Al-Shati refugee camp and Al-Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City on Saturday, as the IDF said it had targeted Hamas military infrastructure.

Footage shows the aftermath of the reported IDF missile strike that destroyed a residential building in Al-Shati refugee camp.

“We were sitting peacefully in the house when three rockets hit this entire block at 11:30. The children were terrified. Several people were martyred and injured. The raid was carried out without prior warning,” said local Raji.

“When the rocket hit the house next door to the west, I was 500 meters away filling a bucket of water. I felt there was something wrong. I came and found my daughter had been martyred. They took her to hospital but they could not save her,” said Hassan Hamed Al-Ziyara, a local.

The authorities in Gaza said the IDF had targeted four neighbourhoods of Gaza City, namely Al-Shati refugee camp, Al-Tuffah, Al-Shejaiya and Al-Zaytoun, leaving 38 people dead and 50 wounded, while 14 people are still missing under the rubble.

Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that the raid on Al-Shati Camp had targeted senior Hamas leader Raed Saad, however, the IDF had not confirmed this at the time of publication.

The war between Israel and Hamas broke out after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on northern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people and kidnapping more than 200 others, mostly civilians.

In turn, Israel launched a full-scale campaign of airstrikes and ground incursions, killing at least 37,372 Palestinians and injuring more than 85,452 others, as of the time of publication.
