Description

The 2024 Greater Bay Area Animation and Gaming Festival began with excitement on Sunday at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in China. Cosplayers applied vibrant makeup and posed for photographs while children admired limited-edition collectables, robots, and memorabilia as their favourite animated characters took to the stage.

"I think this culture can provide some positive guidance for children," said one attendee. "It also brings together kids who enjoy these games and offers an open, inclusive environment."

The three-day event is the first time ACG Hong Kong has expanded into Shenzhen’s manga and gaming market. It aims to promote the integrated development of animation, digital technology, and the cultural industries within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area while fostering cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Cosplayers and performers from nine countries, including France, Argentina, Japan, and South Korea, participate. Activities include a cosplay carnival, e-sports show, and card game competitions, offering an interactive experience for attendees.

The festival also presents opportunities for Hong Kong animation companies to enter the mainland market, supporting the city's broader efforts to boost its cultural and creative industries as drivers of economic growth.
