China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Zhao Lijian warned of 'resolute and effective measures' if US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi decides to visit Taiwan, while speaking at a daily briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

“If the US side insists on having its own way, China will certainly take resolute and effective measures to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The United States must be fully responsible for all the consequences caused by this," he said.

Lijian went on to say that Pelosi’s potential visit would violate the 'One-China Principle' and "seriously impact the political foundation of China-US relations".

In regard to EU-Taiwan relations, the Foreign Affairs spokesperson urged Brussels to stop ‘poisoning’ the atmosphere of China-EU relations, referring to the European Parliament’s resolutions in support of Taiwan.

Pelosi had canceled an earlier visit to Taiwan in April after she caught Covid-19, nevertheless, she had rescheduled her visit to August.
