Description

Ten members of the al-Dura family were reported killed following an alleged Israeli strike on the Nuseirat refugee camp in Deir al-Balah on Tuesday.

“Our whole people are being wiped out, not just the al-Dura family. We have been eradicated for a year, how long will the world remain silent and blind to the crimes of the occupation?” said Jamal al-Dura, who lost his son Muhammad in 2000. “I never forgot him. Every Palestinian child is Muhammad al-Dura.”

Muhammad was killed aged 11 during the Second Palestinian Intifada, an uprising against Israel, between 2000 and 2005. He was seen in images that went around the world, hiding behind his father from the crossfire. Israel claimed the event may have been staged.

Footage filmed in Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital on Tuesday shows shrouded bodies lying on the ground as well as grieving relatives. Locals were seen performing funeral prayers before the bodies were transported to the cemetery on a truck.

According to local media, 19 people, mostly women and children, were killed in the latest strikes, with dozens were injured, and several others are still missing after two houses belonging to the Abu Ataya and Abu Shamis families were hit.

The Israeli military did not comment on the attack although has strongly denied targeting civilians and says that attacks are on Hamas locations and infrastructure.

On Monday night, the Israeli army did announce it had carried out “a precision strike on Hamas terrorists who were operating inside a command and control centre in the Gaza City area in the northern Gaza Strip, inside a compound that was formerly used as the ‘Shujaiya’ UNRWA school.”

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out on October 7 after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,638 people had been killed and more than 96,460 injured at the time of publication.
