IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari claimed that his country's war was 'with Hezbollah and not the people of Lebanon' as he confirmed a 'limited and targeted' ground incursion, speaking in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.

"I want to make it clear our war is with Hezbollah not with the people of Lebanon. We do not want to harm Lebanese civilians. We are taking measures to prevent that," he said.

"The IDF forces is conducting limited and targeted raids along Israel's northern border against threats Hezbollah poses to civilians in northern Israel. These localised ground raids will target Hezbollah strongholds that threaten Israeli towns, Kibbutz and communities along our border," he continued.

Hagari also claimed that Hezbollah 'plans to invade Israel' and described the militant group as the 'world's largest non-state army'.

It came following a week of airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported 1,030 deaths and over 6,300 injuries in total. Hezbollah has launched hundreds of rocket attacks on northern Israel.

Tensions heightened following mass pager and handheld radio explosions last month, which Hezbollah blamed on Israel. The IDF denied involvement.

Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in cross-border strikes since the Israel-Hamas war began in Gaza.
