Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences on Wednesday after eight Israeli soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon.
"I would like to send my condolences from the bottom of my heart to the families of our heroes who fell today in Lebanon. God will save their blood. May their memory be blessed," he said.
The Israeli PM framed the recent ground invasion of Lebanon as part of a larger fight against what he referred to as 'Iran’s axis of evil,' which 'seeks to destroy us.'
"This will not happen - because we will stand together, and with God's help, we will win together."
Netanyahu vowed on Tuesday night that Iran would face 'consequences' for a barrage of around 200 missiles fired at Israel in response to the killings of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
The soldiers, engaged in combat with Hezbollah militants, represent the deadliest loss suffered by the Israeli military on the Lebanese front after one year of violent clashes on the northern border.
Netanyahu reaffirmed his commitment to the return of the October 7 hostages and all displaced communities in northern Israel.
"We will return our abductees in the south, we will return our residents in the north, we will guarantee the eternity of Israel."
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated in mid-September after a series of explosions of wireless communications devices used by Hezbollah left dozens dead and thousands injured. Hezbollah responded by launching hundreds of rockets into northern Israel.
Hezbollah, Lebanese, and Palestinian factions have been exchanging cross-border shelling with Israeli forces since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
