The Gaza government announced on Thursday that the death toll in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has surpassed 40,000. Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office Gaza, announced during a press conference at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah.
"The number of martyrs who were received by hospitals has risen above 40,000," Al-Thawabta said, noting that an additional 10,000 people are still missing under rubble and destroyed buildings. He also reported more than 92,000 injuries. The figures reflect the ongoing and severe impact of the conflict, which has continued for over eleven months since its escalation on October 7.
Al-Thawabta accused the Israeli forces of targeting civilian infrastructure and hindering medical treatment, contributing to what he described as a "genocidal war."
